Cornish Pasty History

It is belived that the pasty originated from Cornwall in England where they evolved to meet the needs of the Cornish miners. The miners were not able to return to the surface until the end of their shift and additionally were covered from head to foot in dirt. The pasty could be held by the thick folded crust while the rest of the pasty could be eaten without getting it covered in dirt.

Inside the pasty, the meat and each vegetable would have its own partition seperated by a wall of pastry. This is so part of the pasty could be eaten for breakfast and the rest for lunch.

Pasties have been introduced all over the world and there are many different takes on the traditional Cornish Pasty. The silver mines of Mexico attacted the expertise of Cornish miners and the Cornish Pasty evolved to a Mexican Pasty (pastes), stuffed with Mexican ingredients such as tinga and mole sauce.
